Wearing Your New Dentures

Posted .

There are different methods of restoring missing teeth. While dental implants are popular, not everyone is a good candidate for them. If that is case for you, you will want to talk with Dr. Arthur Kremer about dentures. There are two basic types of dentures: complete, and partial. Complete dentures are used when all of a patient’s teeth are missing. If some there are some natural teeth remaining, a partial denture is used.

What can you expect with your new dentures? When you first start wearing them, they may feel awkward or even a little uncomfortable. While you will get used to wearing your dentures, you should inform the doctor if they are causing you pain. In some cases, the denture may put pressure on one area of your mouth or gums, which may cause you some pain. Again, talk with the doctor, as it is important that your dentures fit correctly and comfortably.

It will take some practice to learn the right way to put your dentures in and take them out. Dr. Kremer will give you instructions on how long you should wear your dentures and when you should take them out. If you are getting a partial denture, the doctor may have you wear it constantly. Doing that will help to determine if the denture needs to be adjusted.

When you receive your dentures, in addition to instructions on how long you should wear them, the doctor will also explain how to care for them. Be sure to follow those instructions since they will help your dentures to last longer and fit better.
