At Arthur Kremer DDS, we like to answer patient questions. One of the topics we usually get asked about is mouthwash. Because Dr. Arthur Kremer knows that a number of our patients browse this website as a source of dental data, we’ve compiled answers to some of these regularly-asked questions about mouthwash.

Do I really need to use mouthwash every day?
– Put simply, if you’re brushing twice per day and flossing one time per day, you will probably be safe without using mouthwash. That said, mouthwash can be an awesome addition to your oral healthcare routine if you’re less than perfect with your flossing and brushing.

What does mouthwash do for me?
– Mouthwash is used to rinse away plaque and bacteria on your teeth and food particles between your gums. Swishing the mouthwash around in your oral cavity agitates accumulated food debris and leaves your chompers cleaner, helping in the battle against gum disease and tooth breakdown. (These are functions that brushing also serves, and it does so more effectively.)

Which mouthwash should I use?
– Look for an antibacterial mouthwash with the ADA seal of approval. If you have sensitive gums or gum disease, talk to us about getting a prescription mouthwash.
